540 km11 – 14 hoursNH44 to Chandigarh, NH205 and NH3 via Bilaspur, Mandi and KulluTolls: ₹700–900 one way

Delhi to Manali at 540 km is one of India's most-booked hill-station runs — but it's a committed 12-hour drive. Most travellers do it overnight (22:00 Delhi departure, 10:00 Manali arrival) or break it with a Chandigarh overnight halt. The road is tarmac all the way but the last 200 km through Mandi and Kullu is slow two-lane mountain road.

Route description

NH44 Delhi-Chandigarh (250 km, 5 hours) is the fast stretch — four-lane divided. Beyond Chandigarh the road climbs through Bilaspur and Mandi (winding, slow) before entering the Kullu valley. Manali sits at 2,050 metres; the final climb from Kullu is 40 km and can be snow-affected in winter.

Frequently asked questions

Overnight drive or Chandigarh halt?

For young travellers and weekend trips, overnight works — you save a hotel night and arrive for an early check-in. For families with kids or senior travellers, a Chandigarh or Kiratpur halt is much kinder. We assign two drivers for overnight bookings with the second sleeping in the back.

Is the route safe in winter?

Delhi-Chandigarh-Mandi is all-weather. The Mandi-Manali stretch can have snow December-February; chains are required on some days. We check road conditions the day before and advise on snow-route readiness. Atal Tunnel is open year-round and has eliminated the Rohtang bottleneck beyond Manali.

What about HRTC permit for the cab?

Himachal Pradesh inter-state permit is carried on all our Delhi-origin vehicles going to Himachal. No additional cost to you; we handle the paperwork.

How is the outstation fare calculated?

Outstation trips are billed per kilometer with a minimum of 300 KMs per calendar day. The per-km rate depends on your vehicle type and city of pickup. Driver allowance is charged per day. Toll, parking, interstate taxes, and GST at 5% are added at actuals. Contact us for an exact quote for your dates.

Is this a one-way or round-trip rate?

All outstation bookings are round-trip — billed garage to garage. Even for a one-side drop, return kilometers are included. We do offer one-way drop service from select cities at different rates — ask us for availability.

What is included in the fare?

The base fare covers vehicle hire (per-km rate × total kilometers) and driver allowance. Toll charges, parking fees, interstate permit taxes, and GST at 5% are charged at actuals and itemized on your invoice.

How are days counted?

Calendar days — Day 1 starts when the vehicle departs from our garage. Each calendar day carries a minimum of 300 KMs. For example, a 3-day trip has a minimum billing of 900 KMs regardless of actual distance covered.

What is driver allowance and night halt?

Driver allowance is a daily charge covering the driver's meals and incidentals during outstation duty. Night halt is an additional charge when the vehicle is retained overnight. Both vary by city — contact us for specifics.

What vehicles are available for outstation?

We offer sedans (Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios), SUVs (Innova, Ertiga), premium sedans (Honda City, Ciaz), tempo travellers, and buses. Availability varies by city.
